Heaven has taken back its very special child. Joel Heyl Edmunds went peacefully to sleep and passed on to his place with the Angels on October 7th, 2016 in Enterprise, AL at the age of 55.He will be missed by many from the Wiregrass area and across the country. Joel attended the School of Hope in Williamsport, Pennsylvania and was very active in Special Olympics winning ribbons and medals in several events. In younger years he loved to bowl and at a driving range could hit a ball straighter than anyone, even his favorite, Arnold Palmer. He never met a stranger and always brightened up the room with his smile, (unless you took one of his magazines!).It is only right that he be interred in Arlington National Cemetery with his parents since he was a Marine in his imagination from the age of 30. He comes from a military family and has made them proud. He was preceded in death by his father, COL John D. Edmunds, Sr. (USA RET) a veteran of WWII and the Korean conflict and his mother, Jean Heyl Edmunds who served with the American Red Cross in Germany in the aftermath of WWII.Joel is survived by his brother, CW4 John D. Edmunds, Jr. (USA RET) (Jenny) of Enterprise, AL; his sister, MG Jeanette Edmunds (USA RET) of Alexandria, VA; his brother, Jay Edmunds, (Margaret Harris) of Park City, UT and his brother, James Edmunds (Jaimie) of West Chester, PA as well as many uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins, extended family and friends who were touched by his beautiful spirit and will miss him dearly. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Special Olympics or the charity of your choice. The family would like to express a very special thank you to all of the people at Wynnwood Oaks and Enterprise Health and Rehab for their loving care and kindness during Joels residency at both facilities.
