Ben Byrd Henderson Jr

Ben Byrd Henderson, Jr., age 70, of Enterprise, AL, passed away, Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at his home.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 11, 2015 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Vaggalis and Rev. Matt Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Enterprise City Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Enterprise YMCA, PO Box 310700, Enterprise, AL 36331-0214.Ben was born in Tampa, FL, graduated from Enterprise High School and Samford University with a major in business. He was also a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He returned to his home town and was President of Enterprise Banking Company and later served as Chairman of the Board for Regions Bank.Ben followed in his fathers footsteps and had a lifetime commitment to Enterprise and his leadership with Christian principals was felt in many activities for the good of the community. He was a member of Enterprise Rotary Club and was presented the Paul Harris Award. He served on the Executive Board and served as treasurer for 40 years with Enterprise YMCA and was later awarded Honorary Board Member for life. Ben served on the following; Gibson Foundation Board, Enterprise State Community College Board, Chairman of Enterprise Housing Authority, Enterprise Hospital and Nursing Home, and Treasurer of Enterprise Chamber of Commerce.He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Enterprise where he was a lifetime deacon and served on many committees.Preceding Ben in death were his parents, Ben Byrd Henderson, Sr. and Elizabeth Hightower Henderson and an infant brother.He is survived by his wife, Mary Henderson, Enterprise, AL; daughter, Joy Lynn Henderson, Destin, FL; two sons, Trey Henderson (Laudan) Birmingham, AL; Josh Henderson, Birmingham, AL; five grandchildren, Ben IV, Rebecca, Kate, Luke and Libba, Birmingham, AL.
