Charles Pierce Jeter

Charles Pierce Jeter died Friday, January 27, 2017 at 4:30 AM. He was 87 years old.             Family and friends will be received in the sanctuary of Enterprise First United Methodist Church on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 9:00 AM with Celebration of Life beginning at 11:00 am in same location. Pastor Tonya Elmore and Rev. Ron Ball will be officiating. A graveside service will follow at the New Brockton Cemetery.             In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Enterprise First United Methodist Church, PO Box 311525, Enterprise, AL 36330 or Bethlehem Family Camp, 5046 Peanut Road, Graceville, FL 32440.             Charles was the son of Francis Goynes (Frank) Jeter and Rushie Baston Jeter of New Brockton, AL. He has one sister, Frances Aven, West Hoff, TX and one brother, James Edward Jeter (deceased) of Dothan, AL. In 1950 Charles married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Rainey, and for 67 years they served together faithfully in all their endeavors.             Charles graduated from New Brockton High School in 1947 and afterward attended the University of Alabama. His schooling there was shortened by his tour of duty with the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He served with the 3rd Air Force Headquarters in London, England. Upon his return from duty he began his 13 year career in helicopter maintenance at Fort Rucker advancing to the position of Director of Hanchey Air Field. He directed the helicopter maintenance of more than 250 helicopters and 1,000 maintenance personnel in and around-the-clock operation. At that time Hanchey Air Field was the largest heliport in the world with the mission of training helicopter pilots for combat operation.             From 1970 through October 1984, Charles was Vice President and General Manager of Enterprise Electronic Corporation (EEC) of which he was a founder and major stockholder. EEC designed and manufactured weather radar systems for the US Government to give weather data coverage throughout the US. EEC also provided weather radar systems for countries around the world. Charles traveled in approximately 60 countries negotiating the sale, installation and maintenance of weather radar systems.             Following his retirement in 1985, Charles spent the majority of his time in Christian and related mission activities. He was a member of the Enterprise First United Methodist Church where he continually served in leadership positions to include teaching an adult Sunday School Class for 20 years until health conditions prohibited this. He represented the UM Dothan District a delegate to International Conferences where the doctrinal and governing precepts were established. He also directed Spiritual Renewal weekends throughout Alabama and West Florida during which the lives of many people were changed by the power of the Holy Spirit. For approximately 35 years he served as 1st Vice President for Bethlehem Family Camp. He led volunteer work teams in the updating existing buildings to include new wiring, plumbing, roofs and interior decorations. He also designed and led the construction of new buildings. Charles volunteered and served in leadership positions on work crusades in Kentucky, New Mexico, Florida, and Kenya East Africa.             Charles is survived by his wife, Peggy Jeter of 67 years; one sister, Frances Aven (Ted) of Westoff, TX; three daughters and their spouses, Janice McIntosh (Jack); Sherry Trawick (Mike); Velvet Maddox (Kevin); four grandchildren, Kyle McIntosh; Jeremy Trawick (Christy); Savannah Maddox; Lindsey Fomby (Will); great-grandchildren, Colt and Bates Trawick; Brayden Fomby. At an early age, Sheila Conner came to live with the Jeter family. She married Ray Slawson and has two sons, Travis Slawson and Brent Slawson (Sara) and granddaughter, Noa.             Charles’ family will always be grateful for the high moral and spiritual standards by which he conducted his personal and business affairs.
