Andrew Jackson Mills Jr. "Dr. Jack"

On December 3, 2023 Dr. Jack passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family. He was 94 years old. Preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Andrew Jackson Mills, Sr., his daughter, Leta Mills Splees, and his sister, Carolyn Mills McLaughlin. Dr. Jack was born in Enterprise, Alabama on September 2, 1929. After he graduated from Coffee County High School in 1945, he attended the University of Alabama where he served as a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He then obtained his dental degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Jack spent two years after dental school in the military, stationed in Germany. He returned home in 1956 to join his father in practice. As of 2023, there has been an Andrew Jackson Mills practicing dentistry in Enterprise for 100 years. The practice continues today. Dr. Jack wed Billie Jo Hardwick and they were married for 66 years. They raised four children and now have ten grandchildren and four great-granddaughters. Dr. Jack was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher. He sang bass in the church choir for 48 years was a member of the American and Alabama Dental Association for 51 years, serving as president for the Third District. He volunteered for the Choctawhatchee, Pea, and Yellow River Clean Water Partnership and was a member of the Pea River Historical Society. Dr. Jack was a member of the Rotary Club, where served as president in 1967 and received a Paul Harris Fellow. Dr. Jack was an avid outdoorsman, spending his free time in the woods, hunting and fishing. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel with Dr. Ben Bowden officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until service time. A private interment will be held later. He is survived by his wife, Billie Jo Mills, his daughters, Carolyn Mills Schrote (Jim) and Elizabeth Mills Lowman (Sid), his son, Dr. Andrew Jackson Mills, III (Julie), his grandchildren, Jessica Schrote Jeffers, William Stanley Splees, Dr. Andrew Jackson Mills, IV (Abby), Franklin Mills Schrote (Hannah), Kathryn Mills Justice (Steven), Collier Lowman Simpson (John), Benjamin Albert Splees (Kristen), Christian Hardwick Lowman (Natalie), Mills Wixforth Lowman, and John Christopher Splees (Jolin), his great-grandchildren, Harper Ann Jeffers, Anna Price Simpson, Kate Murray Justice, and Drew Willett Justice.
