Billy Ray Thornton, Sr.

Mr. Billy Ray Thornton, Sr., 86, of Coffee Springs, AL, died on Monday, December 11, 2017. Funeral services will be held 2 pm, Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Coffee Springs with Rev. David Bradshaw officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt Carmel Primitive Baptist Church cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 pm until service time on Wednesday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Mt Carmel cemetery fund, 687 County Rd. 651, Coffee Springs, AL 36318. Mr. Thornton retired as an aircraft mechanic from Ft. Rucker, after 32 years of service. Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by his brothers, Clifford, Malcom and Roger Thornton and a sister, Rueleanor Dickerson; also two infant siblings, Willie and Lemma Thornton. Survivors include his wife, Ethel W. Thornton, Coffee Springs, AL; daughters, Cindy Peckham (Tim), Dothan, AL, Brenda Worthington (Morris), Ridgeway, SC; son, Billy Thornton, Jr (Debbie), Dothan, AL; sister, Elizabeth Dunn (Gerald), East Greenbush, NY; brother, Kenneth Thornton (Loretta), Enterprise, AL; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
