Charles L. Martin Jr.

Enterprise

Mr. Charles L. Martin, Jr. passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Enterprise Health and Rehab. He was 103.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 2, 2024 at Meadowlawn Cemetery with Dr. Ben Bowden officiating. Burial will follow with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 302 North Main Street, Enterprise, AL

 Mr. Martin attended Baylor University and enlisted in the Army Air Corp during WWII where he served as an aviator. After WWII, Mr. Martin moved to Ft. Sill, OK where he met the love of his life, Cathryn. In 1954, they moved to Enterprise with the Army Flight School at Camp Rucker. Mr. Martin later was a test pilot with the United States Army Aviation Test Board until his retirement. At the time of his retirement, Mr. Martin had flown every airframe in the US Army inventory. He was a member of the Quiet Birdmen. He was also a longtime member of the Joe Talmadge Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church.

 In his retirement, Mr. Martin and his wife loved to travel to Colorado to fish, as well as making many trips to visit their grandchildren.

 Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Cathryn W. Martin.

 Survivors include his daughter, Leslie Whitlock, Homewood, AL; two grandchildren, Cathryn Walker (Jordan), Great Falls, MT and William Martin Whitlock, Dallas TX; and a great-grandson, Sullivan.

 The family would like to thank the staff of Enterprise Health and Rehabilitation Center for their care of Mr. Martin.
