Donald Rex Hollister, age 84, of Daleville, AL, passed away, Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Noland Hospital. Funeral services with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Bethel Baptist Church, Newton, Alabama with Rev. Mike Griggs officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 P.M. until service time. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors. Don was a gentle, humble person who never met a stranger. He had a special love for children of all ages. One of his favorite jobs was playing Santa Claus every year for Bethel’s Christmas Program. Don was a proud retired military veteran with 20 years of service, serving three tours in Vietnam. He was a retired driver’s license examiner with the State of Alabama. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Proudly supporting his family. Always available to help no matter the task. From carpentry, car repair to cheering on football games. He was also proud to serve Bethel Baptist Church as a faithful and working deacon. He will be loved and remembered by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Goldie Hollister. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Darlene Hollister, Daleville, AL; son, Mike Hollister (Tammy), Daleville, AL; daughter, Tammy Gamble (David), Headland, AL; four grandchildren, Amber Hicks (Richard), Midland City, AL; Michael Hollister (Ashley), Daleville, AL; GeorgeAnna Bucker (Robbie), Virginia; Hayden Stefin (Matt), Mobile, AL; two brothers, Estel Hollister (Joyce), Oklahoma; Ronald Hollister, Texas; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; special nephews, Michael and Matthew Stahr.
