Elaine Graves Farner, age 87, of Daleville, AL, peacefully passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Daleville Baptist Church with Bro. Jim Peters officiating. Burial will follow in Daleville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm on Sunday. Elaine was born in Perryton Texas April 26, 1934 to James Alvin and Daisy Mae Battin Graves. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and the father of her children Leslie Gene Purdom. Elaine is survived by her two daughters, Pamela G. Purdom, Daleville, AL; Penny Jean Purdom Johnson (Wes) Clarksville, TN; two grandchildren, Steven Michael Goulart (Katie); Kristin Jean Goulart and great grandson Cooper Michael Goulart. Elaine traveled the world as a military spouse until 1965 when she settled in Daleville AL. She worked in the Daleville School and Troy University systems, as well as other executive administrative roles. Elaine was a talented musician and avid bowler, once holding the Alabama State Bowling Champion title. She served her community in numerous capacities including: many years as the Chief Election Official for the Daleville Precinct for federal, state and municipal elections; a member of the Board of Directors and chairman of the Daleville Housing Authority; and as a member of the Association of the United States Army Executive Board. Elaine was a loving mother as well as a strong-spirited and influential community member. She was a proud patriot, Texan and Alabama Crimson Tide fan. Elaine and her passion for life will be dearly missed by her family, friends and her precious cat Kitter. The family wishes to thank the kind and supportive caregivers, who contributed to Mrs. Elaine's care, over the past several months.
