Mrs Royer, who died peacefully and surrounded by her family on Friday, November3, 2017 at her home in Ozark, was born May 14, 1947, in Decatur Alabama to John Harlan and Evelyn Greene Giles. Upon the death of her mother, Emily, from the age of 3, was raised by her second mother Joyce Giles. Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday,November 8, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church of Enterprise, AL with Rev. Ryan Martin officiating. Emily studied at Mississippi State College for Women, and John C. Calhoun Junior College where she met and married the love of her life, Len, in 1969. She was a military spouse for 20 years, traveling through out the United States and Europe. She cared for her family during her husband’s deployments to Desert Shield/Storm, Korea, and numerous temporary deployments. Her husband, children, and grandchildren were her whole world. When her daughters grew older, she began to substitute teach within the Enterprise City School system. Other than being a devoted Army Spouse, and raising her 3 children, this was her favorite job. All the students knew and loved “Mrs. Royer.” She was preceded in death by her father, John Harlan Giles, sister, Jeanette Giles Dougherty, and brother John Giles She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Len Royer, a son Bret Alan Royer of Wilmington, NC, two daughters, Alison Brooke Hussey (Wade) of Enterprise, Al and Megan Leah Royer, Daleville, Al; her mother Mrs John Harlan Giles of Decatur, Al; sister-in-law Charlene Giles of Pascagoula, Miss; one brother Webb Giles of Decatur, Al; one sister Alison Burnthall (Mike) of Decatur, Al; and five grandchildren, Kaylee Hussey, Carson Hussey, Kennedy Hussey, Mathew Royer and Lauren. In lieu of flowers, the family has set up a memorial fund at Army Aviation Center Federal Credit Union, 341 Daleville Avenue, Daleville, AL 36322. Donations can be sent to account #10134370-Royer. Any funds collected will be in given to the American Brain Tumor Society to help accelerate a cure.
