She has lived in Enterprise, AL most of her life. She retired from Alatex 30 years ago. Her favorite place to be was working in her yard. She had a green thumb which was evident in her yard full of beautiful plants. Her favorite flower (if she had to name one) was red roses. Jewell loved animals of any kind, but her favorite was her precious dog, Selina. She loved God, gospel and classic country music, dancing, her country, and her home. But her biggest love was her family; her children, parents, siblings, grand-babies, and great grand-babies. She looked forward to her yearly trips to Kentucky where her daughter took great pride in spoiling her by treating her to all the beautiful places and sites of The Blue Grass state of Kentucky.
Jewell was a supporter of the Republican Women of Coffee County group and the SOS Animal Adoption Center-Enterprise, AL.
Jewell was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mattie Calhoun, grandmother, Viola Sherrer of Enterprise, AL, a great-grandson, Jack McIntosh of Loxley, AL, a great-granddaughter, Kaeli Marie Ellis of St. Louis, MO and a granddaughter, Jennifer Ellis of Dothan, AL.
She leaves behind eight children; Eddie (Dee) Ellis of Troy, MO, Kenny (Lisa) Ellis of Enterprise, AL, Wayne Ellis of Herman, MO, Richard Ellis of Dothan, AL, William (Joanna) Ellis of Huntsville, MO, Longley (Sylvia) McIntosh, Julie (Bill) Pruitt, both of Enterprise, AL, and Kim (Steve) Knight of Lawrenceburg, KY. She also leaves behind seventeen grandchildren; Marisa Wehmeier, Kara Ellis, Lindsey Ellis, Shelby Ellis, Brian Ellis, Jamie Ellis, Rebecca Ellis, Callie Hunt, Mike Ellis, Theo Sumnicht, Kayla Richards, Allison Lusby, Preston & Parker McIntosh, Brandon Perdue, Katie Lutterbie, Jeremy Knight and their spouses, seventeen great-grandchildren, and eight siblings.
Jewell had many friends who loved her. Everywhere she went, she left a trail of smiles. She just had a way with people that left an impact. She was known by her friends and family as a lady who dressed with class and had a very Southern accent. She was a “Southern belle”.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Rose Aaron, Enterprise Health and Rehabilitation Center, Hall 3 Staff, and DaySpring Hospice.
