Johnny Eugene Griffin

Johnny Eugene Griffin of Enterprise, AL passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at his home.  He was 77.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel.  Inurnment will follow at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until service time.

Johnny joined the Marine Corps just out of High School in 1965.  During his deployment in Vietnam he volunteered as a forward observer in a recon unit.  They were ambushed and he was shot five times.  He returned fire until the injuries put him down.  He was flown out and spent two years in and out of naval hospitals recovering.  He was eventually medically discharged.  He then attended and graduated from college in Enterprise and the University of South Alabama majoring in Criminal Justice.  He joined the Alabama State Troopers in 1974 serving six years on the road before transferring to ABI narcotics division.  During the years he earned a Master’s degree from Troy University.  He was also honored to serve on the Governor’s Security for two years.  He retired in 2002 and continued to volunteer his time with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department until Parkinson’s disease forced him home.  He fought a good fight but finally succumbed peacefully surrounded by his wife and family.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lois Poe Griffin and brother Tim Griffin. 

Survivors include his wife, Jacque Griffin, Enterprise, AL; four daughters, Kelli Alfreds (Matt), Montgomery, AL; Emily Hayes Spivey (Jay), Jacksonville, FL; Katherin Griffin, Pelham, AL; Erin Jones Watson (Michael), Enterprise, AL; two step-sons, Brian Jones, Enterprise, AL; Scott Jones, Enterprise, AL; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren.
