Julia Darby Jones Lee of Level Plains, Alabama passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at 2:15 PM surrounded by family while in the care of both Extendicare Health & Rehab and Gentiva Hospice in Dothan, Alabama. She was 97 years and 11 months old. Julia was born March 6, 1926, in Mosheim, Texas to John Baptist Jones and Stella Pruitt Jones. In her early teens, her family moved to Gatesville, Texas, but she graduated from Turnersville High School. It was in Waco, Texas that she met the love of her life, Dewey Lee, who quickly became her husband, and whisked her away with his Army career. Julia and Dewey enjoyed 60 years of marriage and traveled together extensively until his passing in 2005. Julia was a strong and resilient woman who survived cancer and a serious illness, which resulted in the partial amputation of all her fingers and toes. However, she was determined to carry on with her life and refused to view herself as handicapped. So, despite her physical challenges, she continued forward living her life on her terms. She was an excellent seamstress who loved to sew beautiful clothing and quilts. Julia also loved to bowl, and during her life she bowled two perfect games! She bowled on the Fort Rucker Bowling Team, now known as Fort Novosel, for 50 years, quitting at the ripe old age of 90 while still able to bowl an average score of 130! Julia is survived by her daughter, Linda Faulk and her husband, Larry of Dadeville, AL; grandchildren, Kimberly Adams and her partner, Mari of Honolulu, HI, Jennifer Raley and her husband, Daren of Headland, AL, Keaton Faulk and his wife, Echo of Eclectic, AL, and Lori Robinson and her husband, Dwayne of Bismark, ND. Julia is also survived by her siblings, all of whom still reside in Texas, John O. Jones and his wife, Betty, Don Jones, and Nancy Thomas. In addition, she is furthermore survived by 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Julia is preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Lee; her son, Dewey “Rhea” Lee; both parents; her brother, Jack Jones; her sisters Iva Grimmett and Betty Young, and one very special fur baby named Scully.
