Lt. Col. (Ret.) Maxwell Neal Brown, Jr. of Enterprise, AL passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, June 9, 2024. He was 78. Born on July 15, 1945 to M.N. “Jug” Brown and Helen Adcock Brown in Enterprise, AL. Neal was a 1963 graduate of Enterprise High School where he was Student Council VP, played football and played in the band. He was an Eagle Scout, in the Order of the Arrow and has been a longtime supporter of the Boy Scouts. Neal went on to Marion Military Institute, graduated Officer Candidate School in Ft Benning, GA. As a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, he graduated Auburn University in 1968 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and then attended Jones Law School. Neal started his business career as the general manager for Garwood Truck Equipment. He started with ALFAB, Inc. in 1980 and was Executive Vice President. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army National Guard after 30 years of service. As a Master Mason of 56 years, Neal was also a 32nd degree member of Scottish Rite and Alcazar Shrine. He has served on numerous committees and boards throughout the city and area including Enterprise Health Care Authority Board of Directors, Coffee-Geneva Economic Development Corporation, Coffee County Family Services Board of Directors, State of Alabama Employer Services Committee, Association of the United States Army, Boy Scouts Alabama-Florida Council Executive Board, Enterprise Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise Rotary Club. Neal was a lifetime member of the First Methodist Church of Enterprise. He loved his family, friends, God, Country and Enterprise. Neal never met a stranger and was happiest helping others. Neal was preceded in death by his parents, M.N. “Jug” Brown and Helen Adcock Brown. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Amelia Harrison Brown; two sons, Laurence Brown (Kenney) and Hillman Brown (Kristi); three grandsons, Harrison Brown, Preston Brown and John-Maxwell Brown; two brothers, Tim Brown (Cathy) and Edd Brown (Stephanie); a niece, nephew and several cousins. Graveside services will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Meadowlawn Cemetery with Rev. Matt Jordan officiating and Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. Serving as pallbearers will be his three grandsons and Billy Cotter, Jim Weatherford, Scot McArthur and Danny Dicus. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Lt. Col. (Ret.)
