Marie Harrison Chancey

Mrs. Marie Harrison Chancey, a resident of Enterprise, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2024 peacefully at her daughter’s home in North Carolina. She was 100 years old. A Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 21, 2024 Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel with her son-in-law, Reverend Jimmy C. Evans, and her two grandsons, Reverend Marcus Evans and Reverend Michael Evans, officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, Monday, May 20, 2024 at the funeral home. Marie Chancey was born May 30, 1923, in Coffee Springs, Alabama to the late Robert and Addie Lee Harrison. She was born into a house of six children. Marie met the love of her life, Hillard Thomas Chancey in a peanut field picking at ten years old. She and Hill had six beautiful children and raised all of them in Enterprise. Marie spent many hours washing and ironing their clothes, cooking, cleaning, and working in the yard. She held different jobs throughout her life. She worked at Sessions Peanut Mill, at Harrison Store, and picking cotton. Marie began attending “her church” Enterprise Bible Methodist Church in 1979. She loved her pastor, Reverend Rinnie Evans, who preceded her in death. She was a faithful member and faithfully paid her tithes for over forty-four years. Marie recently moved to North Carolina with her daughter and began attending Graham Bible Methodist Church. She loved her church and her church people. Marie is preceded in death by her husband Hillard Thomas Chancey; her children Paul Thomas Chancey and Jimmy Hope Chancey; a granddaughter Terri Lynn Harrell; her siblings Johnny, Bob, Comer, Louise, and Pearl. Marie leaves behind her children Patricia Weinrich, Ozark, AL; Janice McKinnon, Ozark, AL; Gerald Chancey, Ozark, AL; Dianne Evans and husband, Reverend Jimmy Evans, Graham, NC. She also leaves behind twenty-one grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons.
