Mary Ida Griffin

Mary Ida Walker Griffin of Daleville was born on March 14, 1946, passed away on September 3, 2024. Mary was the daughter of JC and Lida Walker. She was one of 7 children. Brothers and sisters, Julie, Peggy, Jane, Susan, Kenneth and Micheal. Mary was an avid Alabama fan and enjoyed going to the games with her son Ferrell. Anyone that knew Mary knew she loved Elvis Presley and loved Jerome Jackson, almost as much. She was a member of Mount Carmel Methodist Church, where she enjoyed being a part of the Shoebox Project, making sure all of her boxes were full. She was employed with the textile industry for many years, where she made lasting friendships that endured until the end. Mary also loved to cook and entertaining her families, especially around the holidays, where everyone was welcome and everyone was “Family”. If you ever had the chance to enjoy any of these gatherings, you knew it was not time to eat, until Mary had the cornbread cooked and people were standing in line for their piece. Mary was the type of person that had a special bond with each person that had the opportunity to know her and she loved with her whole heart. You never doubted that if you ever needed a friend, a confidante, shoulder to cry on, someone to vent to or just a hug and an I love you, Mary was only a phone call away and she did love to talk on the phone.

 Memorial services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 7, 2024 a Mt. Carmel Methodist Church in Ozark, AL with Rev. Wendell Holmes officiating and Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory serving the Griffin family.  The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM until service time.

 She is preceded in death by her parents, J C and Lida Walker; her brother Micheal; and sister Peggy

 Mary leaves behind her husband of almost 38 years, Huey C. Griffin; son, Ferrell Gill (Kay); daughter Dawn Densel (Fred), daughter, Kerri Shirah (Anthony); sons Ben Griffin (Dawn) and Glen Griffin (Heather); 12 grandchildren, Brittany, Walker, Waylon (Abbi), Spencer (Wendie), Chase (Shelby), Corey, Mason (Amaris), Tucker (Brionna), Shelby, McKenzie (Jeremy), Brittany (Steven), and Meaghan (Tyler); 13 great-grandchildren, Chance, Carter, Rhett, Oaklee, Paislee, Kaylee, Hadyn, Legacy, Blaize, Joseph, Hadley and two more on the way. She also leaves behind her siblings, their spouses and a host of nieces and nephews, who she loved like her own. 

 The family wants to give a special thank you to Enhabit Hospice.
