Charles Paul Hinea, Jr., of Enterprise, AL peacefully passed away on May 6, 2023, at the grand age of 90. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 12, 2023, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Enterprise, AL, with a reception to follow. Inurnment will be in Cumberland, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VFW (P.O. Box 311752 Enterprise, AL 36331-1752) or to the Knights of Columbus (123 Heath Street Enterprise, AL 36330). After graduating from La Salle High School, he attended Potomac State College of West Virginia University, where he majored in engineering. Charlie then joined the US Army, doing tours of duty overseas in France, Japan and Germany. Charlie served in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, and was awarded the Korean Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze stars. While he was stationed in Germany, he met and married Rosemarie, and together they had four children. He retired with the rank of Master Sergeant after 30 years of service and then continued to work for the US Government in a civilian capacity, finding his home in the world of cooking and military club management. At the age of 70, after leading cooking and military club management courses all over the European theater, he began his well-deserved second retirement. Charlie chose to settle in Enterprise, AL. A devoted Catholic, he regularly attended St John Catholic Church and was involved in the Lenten fish frys, spaghetti dinners and smoked BBQ fundraisers. He was an active fourth degree Knight of Columbus. Charlie enjoyed socializing, and he participated in many community groups and endeavors. Charlie is survived by three of his children - Katherine Berkhousen, Maryland, Michael Hinea, Switzerland, and Andrew Hinea, Germany; his younger sister, Mary Ann Beliveau, Massachusetts; and his grandchildren Dominik, Matthew, Patrick, and Christoph.
