“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1. Nancy Scott Helms was born on August 1, 1938 to Agnes and Herman Cooley Scott. She passed away on December 10, 2020 in Enterprise. Nancy was born in Lumberton, North Carolina but grew up in north Birmingham. She graduated from Phillips High School in Marion County and married Bobby Helms on August 31, 1958. The pair had two sons together, Rand Helms and Joshua Rand Helms. “Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Mathew 22: 37-39. Nancy and her husband of 62 years opened Country Best Farm in 2005 and is where she met many new friends. Even if it was just a one-time meeting, Nancy had a way of making you feel like family. Prior to opening Country Best Farm, she worked at South Central Bell Telephone Company for a number of years. “You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” Psalm 16:11. Nancy made it a point to find a church family no matter where she lived and was a member of First Baptist Church of Birmingham, Center Point Baptist and Huffman Baptist. She was full of the kind of laughter, fun and joy that only comes from knowing the Lord. She has had a tremendous impact on this community from sharing the Gospel and Good News and what the Lord placed on her heart to tell someone to strengthen them in their faith. If anyone needed prayer, she would stop what she was doing and pray regardless of the time. Nancy is now enjoying heaven. She will be missed by countless numbers of people. “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. “And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 5:7-11. Nancy was preceded in death her parents, Agnes and Herman Scott; her son, Rand Helms; sister, Louise Donzee; and brothers Joe Scott, John D. Scott and Eddie Scott. She is survived by her husband, Bobby; son, Joshua Helms; and a host of other family members and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, December 14, 2020 at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel with Dr. Ben Bowden and Rev. Sonny Moore officiating. A graveside service followed on Dec. 15 at Jefferson Memorial. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Enterprise, 302 North Main Street, Enterprise, AL 36330.
