Richard Pearl Fleming, age 94, of Enterprise, AL, passed away, Friday, September 30, 2022 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, October 2, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Enterprise with Rev. Steve Watson and Dr. Ben Bowden officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 P.M. until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: First Baptist Church, Children’s Ministry, 302 North Main Street, Enterprise, AL 36330. Papa Richard and Mama Ruth owned and operated Fleming Ford Tractor which was formerly Metcalf Tractor. He was truly loved by many. He never met a stranger and loved everyone he met. At First Baptist Church of Enterprise he was known as “The Candy Man”. He gave out thousands of pounds of candy. The children came to him on every church occasion. Papa Richard was entertaining, loving, kind and humorous. Never would a visitor leave without receiving a gift from Papa, being anything from a watermelon to a bag of tomatoes. Papa Richard was absolutely “magic”. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Huff and Lonia Martin Fleming and his wife of 67 years Ruth Metcalf Fleming. Survivors include his children, Hal Fleming (Teresa), Enterprise, AL; Thelmanne McGaughey (Barry), Dothan, AL; Fox Fleming (Amy), Enterprise, AL; grandchildren, Amanda Fleming Taylor (Mark), Charlotte, NC; Matt McGaughey (Hollie), Dothan, AL; Christin “Cricket” Miller (Greg), Birmingham, AL; Devan Bigelow (Rick); Ivy Fleming; Julie Fleming; great-grandchildren, Abigail, Emma, Isabella, Olivia and Sophie Taylor; Radney, Fox and Maye Miller; brother, Sam Fleming (Teresa); many nieces and nephews. The family offers special appreciation and love to his caregivers: Perrie Osbourne, Christine Boyd, Chasity Gould and Nickey Shipman.
