Robert H. Abplanalp, age 80 of Enterprise, AL, died May 5, 2018 at Enterprise Health and Rehab, Enterprise, AL. Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Enterprise Health and Rehab or to Disabled Veterans of America. Bob was born March 1, 1938 in Warren PA to Walter H. Abplanalp and M. Connie Emerson-Abplanalp. Bob’s career started as a Civil Air Patrol Cadet in the 1950’s in Lake County, Ohio. At the age of 19 he entered the United States Army where he became a helicopter pilot. He served in Korea, Germany and 2 tours of duty in Vietnam, 1965-1966 and 1969-1970. After 20 years active duty he retired from the U. S. Army. His career took him to Iran for a short time. Bob received a Bronze Star, 16 Air Medals with 16 Oak Leaf Clusters, and an Army Commendation Medal. Upon his return he became a civilian helicopter instructor pilot for the next 20 years at Ft. Rucker, Alabama. He remained a resident of Enterprise, Alabama for the rest of his life. Preceding Bob in death was a sister, Patricia C. Fry, of Franklin, TN and a brother, James W. Abplanalp of Willoughby, Ohio. Survivors include his sister, Barbara L. Abplanalp-Garner, of Painesville, Ohio; two sons, Gregory and Douglas of Arizona; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
