Robert "Bob" Thomas Cansler

Robert “Bob” Thomas Cansler, 82, of Greenfield, IN, passed away on April 1, 2025. He was born December 29, 1942, in Key West, FL, to the late Robert Rodgers and Ruby Kathleen (Thompson) Cansler. Bob was a graduate of Miami Senior High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from Troy State University and his master’s degree from Oakland City University in Indiana. He married Carolyn Lynette Kelly on December 18, 1965. Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for 20 years as a Flight Engineer, retiring on October 1, 1981. He was then an accountant for 25 years for the Defense Finance Accounting Service, finally retiring on March 7, 2007.

Bob was a member of the Army Otter Caribou Association, the Association of Government Accounting, and a lifetime member of the Army Aviation Heritage Association. He was also a volunteer and recipient for Indy Honor Flight. Bob was an aviation enthusiast who also enjoyed vegetable gardening and classic cars. He loved and cherished his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and adored his two dogs, Tucker and Dexter.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel. Burial will follow in Daleville Memorial Gardens with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Indy Honor Flight, P.O. Box 10, Plainfield, IN 46168.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Carolyn Cansler; sons, Tim Cansler (Lisa), James Cansler and Michael Cansler; grandchildren, Kyle Cansler (Madison), Will Cansler and Dustyn Cansler; great-grandchildren, Ezry Cansler and Cooper Cansler; and sister, Judy Young (Joe). He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jim Cansler and Bud Cansler.
