My beautiful blond-haired blue-eyed boy was born on September 4th, 1970 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina. What a sweet happy little boy. He adored his big sister Katy, following her everywhere, wearing whatever costume she dressed him in to play a part in one of their many fantasies. They were best buddies. His love of animals, especially dogs, began with Petunia our rescue dog when he was a young child. For most of his life he had a dog and truly believed “a dog was man’s best friend”. As a little boy he was smart and inquisitive. He took every mechanical toy apart and occasionally managed to get it back together. As an adult he could drive any piece of heavy equipment and was excited when the chance to learn to operate something new presented itself. He tinkered with and worked on cars and house projects with his boys Andy and Taylor. Even recently he was pleased when Andy called to check out how to work on something. Rob loved the outdoors. He fished and hunted and loved going to “the river” on weekends with family and friends. He was blessed with an abundance of friends who loved him, and he reveled in maintaining contact with them all. He was courteous and polite, always starting up a conversation and quick to smile. He endeared himself to many older ladies with his attention and “yes ma’am”. Rob had a personal quiet faith in God that sustained him and carried him through many rough times. He loved his family. He always enjoyed his large extended families. As his mother, I felt loved and treasured. The center of his love, though, was his three children. He loved being a part of their lives growing up and was so proud of their accomplishments, their work ethic, their values, and the good loving happy lives they were living. Riley was a bright light in his world. He loved to brag about her grades and successes in school. He loved to find out about how her day had gone and what she had done and tase her about possible boyfriends. He was proud of and loved deeply Andy, Taylor, and Riley. We will all miss his hugs, his smiles, his laugh, watching him interact with strangers, friends, and those he loved. Rob was a kind and loving man. He was my son. I will miss him more than words can say. From his Sons Andrew and Taylor McLeod and his daughter Riley McLeod; "We love you and we miss you dad."
