Sarah E. Parker

December 19, 1937 — December 12, 2023

Sarah E. Parker of the Midway Community, Dale County passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at the age of 85. She is survived by her husband, Lee Parker of the Midway Community, AL; her daughter, Amanda Parker Hampton (Christopher) of Dothan, AL; grandchildren, Cole Linker of Glen Rose, TX, and Sarahbeth Wagner of Dothan, AL; and countless beloved cousins, nephews, and nieces. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Parker Linker of Glen Rose, TX. Sarah was born on December 19th, 1937 to parents “Slim” and Juanita Childs in Hartford, Alabama– a community in which she resided for virtually her whole life. After she married Lee, her husband of 55 years, she obtained her Master’s degree in early childhood education from Troy State University to fulfill her life’s calling as a teacher. For almost 20 years, she was a light to the students and faculty of Fort Rucker Schools. During this time, Sarah and Lee raised their two daughters and, eventually, absolutely relished in spoiling their grandchildren. She then enjoyed many gratifying years of retirement, continuing to invest in her family, church, and broader community. Despite her famously small stature, Sarah was not easy to overlook. She was always up for a good, long conversation. Even at the end of her life, she remained inquisitive, involved, and spirited. She faithfully served her community as a leader in multiple civic and religious organizations, including Republican Women of Coffee County and Gideons (Ladies) Auxiliary, Wiregrass Camp. Sarah always ensured that her loved ones had the very best, even at the expense of her own time and resources. To say that she embodied Christ-like selflessness is an understatement. From her classiest to her sassiest, Sarah simply enjoyed life, and her positivity radiated outward to everyone that knew her. Sarah is irreplaceable, and her loss is deeply felt in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Providence Baptist Church in Clayhatchee, AL. The family will begin receiving friends at 10:00 a.m. followed by an 11:00 a.m. service led by Rev. Harold Peters and Pastor Matt Scott. Burial will be held at Providence Cemetery immediately following the service. To honor Sarah’s memory, donations can be made in her name to Gideon’s International, Wiregrass Gideon’s Camp, P.O. Box 403, Daleville, AL, 36322. The family would like to thank pall bearers Robert Parker, Doug Parker, Kenneth Harrell, Nicolas Sharp, Wade Sharp, and Wendell Nolan for their willingness and love. The family would also like to offer their sincerest gratitude to Searcy Funeral Home, Hartford Retirement Village, Hartford Healthcare and Rehabilitation, and most recently, Gentiva Hospice of Enterprise. Your love and care are immeasurable. Sarah loved a good celebration, the hostess with the mostest. We can only imagine her homecoming with her Lord and Savior. What a glorious day!
