Sfc (Ret) Glen D. "The Waz" Wasden

January 13, 1949 — January 20, 2022

On January 20, 2022, the world lost a man who was like no other. SFC Glen D. Wasden, of Enterprise, AL, passed away at Enterprise Medical Center, at the age of 73. To know The WAZ was to know a legend. He lived life according to his own rules, followed a doctrine of his own design known as WAZ:101, and devoutly supported The University of Alabama Crimson Tide (even during the Shula and Dubose years). He unapologetically spoke his mind, and if you were lucky enough to befriend him, his loyalty knew no bounds. While tact wasn’t his forte, his sense of humor always resulted in comedy gold and uproarious laughter. While it’s true that his family was his pride and joy, his military service was a close second. He took great pride in serving in the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer for 20 years, serving two tours in Vietnam, four in Korea, one in Germany, and retiring in 1989. He was a Sergeant First Class, and he always put duty first even when that meant arresting a higher ranking officer and throwing him in the drunk tank. Did he know exactly who the officer was? Yes. Did he get reassigned to a new post in a different state soon after? Yes. Would he have done it again? Absolutely. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM, CST, Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel with an Army Chaplain officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1:00 P.M. until service time. His family respectfully requests that all attendees wear properly-fitting masks. He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Alexander Wasden; daughter, Lisa Michelle Wasden; and two sisters, Brenda Pharr and Deborah Parker. Survivors include his wife, Haeng Wasden, Enterprise, AL; daughter, Sharon Marie Wasden Hanson (Eric), Nashville, TN; granddaughter, Isla Michelle Hanson; grandson, Alistair Zeppelin Hanson; nephew, Jared Parker; and three nieces, Kim Pharr Turner, Jennifer Emerson, and Heather Pharr Lambert. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project in honor of his memory. Please visit support.woundedwarriorproject.org to make a donation. You may sign the register book or send condolences to the family at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel’s website: www.searcyfuneralhome.com. And even if it’s the only time you ever say it in your life, we ask that you say at least one "Roll Tide!" in honor of The WAZ.
