SGM (Ret) William L. (Bill) Campbell of Prattville, Alabama passed away Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama, surrounded by family. Mr. Campbell was born in Fayetteville, Tennessee on August 25, 1947. He was 77.
Graveside services with full Military Honors will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, December 20, 2024, at Pea River Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Clio, Alabama with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Prattville Memorial Chapel, Prattville, Alabama from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, New York 10306 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516.
Mr. Campbell retired after a 30-year career with BellSouth, and then continued working as an instructor and consultant in the telecommunications industry prior to retiring fully, concentrating on visiting and spending time with his extended family and friends. Bill loved his country and was a dedicated and decorated member of the Alabama National Guard. He began his career as a medic and retired as company Sergeant Major of A Co. 1st Battalion 20th SFGA (Special Forces Group Airborne) with over 30 years of service. His deployments included Operation Desert Storm and Operation Uphold Democracy.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman and longtime member of the Solomon’s Mill Hunting Club in Louisville, Alabama. Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle who made many cherished memories with his family and friends at Lake Martin, Alabama.
Mr. Campbell was preceded in death by his parents, Solen and Jo Campbell.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Linda Campbell, Prattville, Alabama; two daughters, Jodi Williams (Jim), Cheyenne, Wyoming; Nikki Burg (Trey), Enterprise, Alabama; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Kathryn, and Anna Williams; Mary Cam, Stafford, Henry, and Harris Burg; sister, Joanne Taylor (Bill), Roopville, GA; brother, Johnny Campbell (Beverly), Marietta, Georgia; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
