SSG (RET) Orville Smith of Enterprise, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022. He was 85 years old. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, December 2, 2022, at Dothan City Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home & Crematory directing. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:30 AM at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory in Enterprise. Orville was preceded in death by Manette Trant and family in Oklahoma. He is survived by the Brimer family, the Fadigan family, and the Jones family in Georgia and Florida. Orville was born May 12, 1937, in Oklahoma. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the military where he served his country in the Vietnam War. After retiring from the military, he moved to Alabama where he met and was common law married to Manette Trant of Alabama. They lived in Enterprise, Alabama, and he worked at Alfab Inc. until retiring in the late 2000s. Orville had a passion for wood working and leather working. He would often hand-make beautifully crafted birdhouses, leather wallets, and coasters for his family and friends. He also enjoyed shooting guns and watching old western movies. He was a man of few words, but he touched the hearts of many that knew him.
