Thomas Sidney "Sid" Elliott

October 23, 1942 — May 15, 2024

Mr. Thomas Sidney “Sid” Elliott passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at his home. He was 81. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Emeritus COL-RET Sonny Moore and Senior Pastor Dr. Ben Bowden officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception in the fellowship hall after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Park Avenue Baptist Church, 300 East Park Avenue, Enterprise, AL 36330 where Pansy serves as the pianist. Sid was born on October 23, 1942 in Elizabethton, TN and was preceded in death by his parents, E. S. and Ina Ritchie Elliott; a sister, Brenda Handley Griffin. Sid lived in Enterprise for 51 years and was the Men’s Basketball Coach and Physical Education Instructor at Enterprise State Junior College for twenty-one years prior to his retirement. Sid taught and coached at four different high schools before coming to ESJC. Sid was a four-year starter for the University of Tennessee Basketball Volunteers and was elected team captain for his senior year. He earned both his B.S. and M.S. degrees at UT and served as a graduate assistant coach for one year. Sid grew up in Mullens, WV where he lettered in four sports, making First Team All-State in basketball and Honorable Mention All-State in football. He helped his football team win the 1959, Class 2A, WV State Championship. He was later inducted into the Mullens High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Sid also has his name inscribed on the University of Tennessee Athletic Wall of Fame. Sid was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Enterprise and served as a Deacon and Usher for many years. He was a thirty-one year member of Dr. Joe Talmadge’s Sunday School Class. Sid is survived by his loving wife, Pansy Bryan Elliott, who took special care of him during his lengthy battle with Leukemia; his son, Mark Elliott (Michele), Dallas, TX; two step-daughters, Rose Marie Wise (Art), Dale County, AL; Treva Walden, Enterprise, AL; granddaughter, Jasmine Dean (Bradley), Ashford, AL; two grandsons, Peyton Elliott, Dallas, TX; Mack Wise, Dale County, AL; great granddaughter, Hallie Dean, Ashford, AL; sister, Janice Hight (Bill), Johnson City, TN; sister-in-law, Mary Lynn Bryan, Opelika, AL; uncle, Lawrence Ritchie, Elizabethton, TN; aunt, Anna Ruth Cole, Elizabethton, TN; nephew, Andy Hight (Parisa) and great niece, Addie all of Johnson City, TN; niece, Kali Chadick (William) and great-niece, Addie all of Auburn, AL; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
