Vernie Dale “Dot” Miller Casaday, age 89, of Mary Esther, FL, formerly of Enterprise, AL passed away, Thursday, September 29, 2022 peacefully surrounded by family and friends at her home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, October 7, 2022 at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel with Rev. Cliff Quincey officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery next to her late husband and near her parents. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 P.M. until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: New Home Baptist Church, 43 County Road 620, Enterprise, AL 36330. Dot Miller graduated from Troy State in 1954 with a degree in elementary education. During the summer breaks of her college years she was a Baptist Youth Missionary in Bakersfield, CA and Santa Fe, NM. She taught school in Crestview, FL, Montgomery, AL and then finally in Enterprise where she was a beloved 4th grade teacher at Holly Hill Elementary for 25 years. In 1958, she married Tom Casaday at her home church, New Home Baptist, which her father had helped build. Dot was a loving and protective mother, a loyal wife to Tom and a good friend and mentor. Many of her best friends were fellow teachers at Holly Hill Elementary where she enjoyed the progress students made and the camaraderie of fellow teachers. Dot loved her students and was eager that each and every one reach their full potential. Dot enjoyed gardening, travel and attending Auburn Football games. In the last 10 years, Dot lived with her sons in the Fort Walton Beach area and enjoyed working in the yard, sitting in the swing, enjoying sunsets and taking short trips with her sons. Dot was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Tom Casaday and her parents Lee Ford Miller and Nora Hughes Miller all of Enterprise, AL. Survivors include her two sons, Thomas C. Casaday, Jr. and Warren Lee Casaday of Mary Esther, FL; sister, Sue Ann Miller Griffin of Enterprise, AL; sister-in-law, Betty Howard Casaday of Greensboro, GA; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
