William (Ken) Maddox went to be with his Lord after an extended illness at the age of 78 on Saturday February 16, 2019. A loving husband, brother, and uncle who will forever be a part of those he left behind. Ken was born on September 27, 1939 in Webb, AL to William Moody Maddox and Gladys Hagler Maddox. He graduated from Carroll High School in Ozark, AL and later attended the University Alabama. He married the love of his life, Virginia Conner Maddox from Brundidge, Alabama in March 17, 1960. After moving to Enterprise, AL, Ken began working for United States Post Office and after 35 years retired as Post Master in Newton, AL. Ken continued to work as an accountant with his Sister Jean at their Business, Newton Bookkeeping until 2015 when he completely retired. Although Ken and Virginia were not blessed with their own children, over the years the couple welcomed numerous children into their home helping, teaching, mentoring and encouraging them to pursue their dreams Ken was passionate about Alabama Football and traveling. He was a generous, witty and compassionate man who loved life. He was an active and dedicated Christian man who wanted to share his testimony with everyone. He is preceded in death by his father William Moody Maddox and his mother Gladys Hagler Maddox, sister-in-law Ann Conner Mobley and three brothers-in-law Larry Watson, Hubert Wayne Mobley and James Lee. Ken is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia Conner Maddox; sister, Jean M. Watson, Newton, AL; brother, Rick Maddox (Jackie), Jacksonville, FL; sister-in-law, Linda Conner Lee, Dothan, AL; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great- great nieces, great-great nephews and many special adults and children that throughout the years became a part of his family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, February 18, 2019 at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel in Enterprise, AL with Reverend Jean Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until service time on Monday. A reception will follow the services at Newton Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Newton, AL. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ken’s life.
