Polk Houston Searcy

Founder, 1875-1965

Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory in Enterprise, Alabama, is owned by the Searcy family. Our family is no stranger to Enterprise and the surrounding communities. In 1908, Polk Houston Searcy left Luverne, AL, in a horse and buggy with his wife, Lallie Revel Searcy, and opened a hardware store and funeral home in downtown Enterprise. As Enterprise grew, so did the Searcy family. Polk and Lallie reared five children in Enterprise. Of those five children, Revel and Lomax followed their father and chose a lifetime career in the funeral profession.

After the deaths of Revel and Lomax, Dorothy Bevis Searcy (wife of Lomax) and their son, J Lomax (Maxie) Searcy Jr., continued the family tradition in funeral service. Lomax and Dorothy's other son, William (Bill) Searcy, joined the family in funeral service. The Searcy family proudly continues their service to our community with the addition of Bill's son, Will, into the business.

In October of 2007, the Searcy family purchased the funeral home that was built by the Patterson family and changed the name to Searcy Funeral Home, where we proudly continue to serve families with a fourth generation of caring service to our community. We have now added a full-service crematory to our funeral home and have changed the name to Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory, a name that is respected in our community.

Dorothy Bevis Searcy

Second Generation, 1918-2010

After the death of her husband, Lomax, Dorothy Bevis Searcy found the responsibility of operating the family business had fallen directly on her shoulders. Dorothy (affectionately called Mama Dot) answered the call and made a necessary career change from wife and mother to a funeral service professional. She was actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the funeral home until age 90 when her health began to fail. During her later years, she joyfully continued to make her appearance "at work" every day. Mrs. Searcy (Mama Dot) passed away April 2, 2010, at the age of 92. She is missed by her family, her co-workers, and friends as well as those lives she touched over the years.
